Nuk and Nettles near North Island ride end
Nuk Korako and Nettles Lamont have reached the final few days of their fundraising ride down the North Island and they want to celebrate the end of the journey with the Cholmondeley community.
On Saturday, January 25th they will arrive at the Beehive in Wellington to mark the end of their ride and they would like to invite alumni and members of the public to join them from 11.30 am.
“We want to get as many Cholmondeley alumni along as possible. We want to shout out to anybody in the Wellington region who has been associated with Cholmondeley to come along and join in the fun,” said Cholmondeley Board Chair Nettles Lamont.
The pair want to thank everyone for their support so far and with just three days left on their bikes, now is the time to show our gratitude for what they have done for Cholmondeley.
“Thank you, everybody, for all the support and the messages we really need it, keep them coming, please support us. We’ve got the Givealittle page, we’re getting there day by day and it’s all for the tamariki children of Cholmondeley,” said Nettles.
Nuk and Nettles have been riding for two weeks now and as Nettles described, they have faced some big challenges, “I did not realise the physical intensity of riding the length of the North Island. I almost fell over yesterday climbing the mountain at the back of the Whanganui river. I did not realise just how steep and how high [it is] in 30-degree heat, and how much my legs would hurt getting to the top but we got there,” she said.
She explained the highlights of the trip have been the people they have met along the way.
“We walked into a random café North of Auckland in a remote spot. The café was run out of a woman’s home and as we were ordering I was telling the woman about what we were doing and the man behind me said, ‘Oh Cholmondeley I was from the South Island, my dad supported Cholmondeley I know what you do’ and he gave us 100 dollars. It’s moments like that that make it worthwhile,” Nettles said.
Nettles and Nuk are already planning their next ride for Cholmondeley. More details to come.
